22nd November, Leh: Two days orientation cum dissemination workshop organised by National Health Mission, J&K on Maternal & Child Health Guidelines was held at Leh today. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Yashpal Sharma, Mission Director, NHM, J&K & Dr Saleem Ur Rehman, Director Health Services, Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Yashpal Sharma Mission Director NHM, J&K, appreciated the functioning of health department in Ladakh region despite harsh weather conditions and difficult terrains. He urged for plugging of gaps in the delivery of essential services through action at various levels of the healthcare delivery system so that best Maternal & Child health care is provided to the community.
He said what is needed, was the close monitoring, dedication and professional acumen of the medical and paramedical staff deployed in various health institutions. He said though NRHM have provided both infrastructural as well as manpower strengthening in health department besides adequate equipments in health institutions, onus lies on Medical & paramedical Staff to appropriately use these healthcare facilities with a missionary mode and update their knowledge with latest guidelines to serve the community.
Dr Saleem Ur Rehman, Director Health Servies, Kashmir in his address appreciated the support provided by National Health Mission in creating better health infrastructure and service delivery through various programme & schemes from time to time.
On the occasion Performance Review Document of Health department for the year 2013-14 & Operational Guidelines of State Health Society, J&K for the year 2014-15 were also released by Dr Saleem Ur Rehman, Director, Health Services, Kashmir.
Dr Phunsokh Wangchuk, Chief Medical Officer Leh while speaking on the occasion said that the health department is committed to provide quality health care in the region and requested for adequate funding from National Health Mission, J&K. Dr Shabir Hussain, Chief Medical Officer, Kargil requested for including the Kargil District in the list of High Priority Districts for enhanced funding under National Health Mission.
The Inaugural Session was followed by technical session for two days in which detailed presentations on Maternal & Child Health Guidelines were made by Dr Harjeet Rai, Divisional Nodal Officer Jammu, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, Divisional Nodal Officer Kashmir, Dr. Younis Mushtaq Associate Programme Manager, Dr.Arshid Nazir Assistant Program Manager & Mr. Junaid Zaroo, Assistant Programme Manager State Health Society. The participants were sensitized about the latest guidelines of MoH&FW, GoI on Maternal & Child Health.
The workshop was attended by Chief Medical Officers, Medical Superintendents, Dy. Chief Medical Officers, Block Medical Officers, Medical Officers, and District & Block Programme Management Units of Leh & Kargil Districts.
